"The Glicko rating system and Glicko-2 rating system are methods for assessing a player's strength in games of skill, such as chess and go. It was invented by Mark Glickman as an improvement of the Elo rating system, and initially intended for the primary use as a chess rating system. Glickman's principal contribution to measurement is "ratings reliability", called RD, for ratings deviation."
and;
"Both Glicko and Glicko-2 rating systems are

First part of previous post was lost... It said, in effect that a new player would start off with a maximum 'RD' (ratings deviation). An active player with a low 'RD' would gain a small fraction of the 4-7 points that he currently (usually) wins from a ~0 or (---) total beginner. I have seen a few implementations of Glicko rating system and Glicko-2 now. Java or VB or Excel??? They were all only a few hundred lines or code. It may take a little more work to integrate to the Elo based system we use now. Also the extra algorithms will use more processing power. If done well, the result should use only a little more than currently. The newer Glicko-2 is somewhat simplified compared to the first iteration AND we don't need to use ALL of it. tx Greets OPERATOR and ThUnDeR :):):)
