Sorry, I'm a bit dumb. Just, I had a rating of 50, then beat a player of a rating of 120. My rating went up to 69 - why not 16?

Unfortunately, I'm not a mathematician. I cannot answer your tough question. :(

The rating change after a game will mainly depend on the rating difference of the two players before the game.

If you beat a higher rated player, you will get more points, than for beating a lower rated player.
