Doubling near end of game
Some people seem to consider it bad manners/unsporting to double near the end of the game. Why?
Doubling can legitimately be done any time can't it?
I find it more confusing why people double at the start for no reason, or double the moment they are out of your home base just because they're 'out' and you're not out of their home quarter.
I would also like to know what people think of this. I think doubling near the end, when it is clear that you win, is a way of jumping over this boring part of the game at quickly get to a new one.
I agree. Doubling is allowed at any time, and there is nothing "ungentleman" about it. And I'm also perplexed by the early doublers, but heck, it is a free strategy gift from the opponent. It gives you control of the cube, and you can clean up later if you get ahead. What really annoys me are people that accept a 5 point match, and then insist that we go to 4x immediately. Would take all the fun out of match play.
