Thankyou LadyDie for accepting my post, sorry for the examples! hopefully people will know what im talking about and flyordie should maybe increase the ban on the variations of the foul words that people use. Its not smart or funny and it brings the tone of the website down. It can upset and intimidate fellow users and i would go as far to class it as internet bullying! The muted demerit act against the few players that are found out does not appear to discourage this behaviour as many of these players have and can use alternative nicknames.

Well sometimes the filter can ba annoying when for example, you type a perfectly good sentence and because a set of letters are near each other (last 2 letters of one word and the first two letters of another) it filters the whole sentence.

Can this be imrpoved? The efficiency of the current filter should be improved (if it can) before adding more words, in my opinion anyway :)

I fully agree with you, when it comes to foul language, too many people use abbreviations that can and should be easily caught by the filter. Yet they aren't why is that?? As already noted certain combinations of words causes the whole sentence to be deleted and yet if they  choose to use abbreviations  then any number of swear words can be flung at people with no apparent action taken. FOD has the means to filter these and should do so. Examples hmmm too many to enumerate, some seem innocent enough, but are vulgar. Come on FOD, clean up this site a bit. signed theOtherGuy

Yes apart from Martin Duffy's helpful contribution to the topic everyone who posts agrees that they would like flyordie to do sumthing about this problem. I think Martin was trying to start a flooding of the post so that the mods would lock it. Thats easy enough to do Martin, why comment on this post if you don't have any positive suggestions regarding the matter. 

Maybe there are so many offenders that flyordie are reluctant to take active measures for obvious reasons!

I mean the snooker rooms would be half empty! lol

How about using one of the other rooms that lie empty all day for folk who just wanna play without the hassle!

I can only comment on the snooker rooms as i mostly play in them, i expect that its much the same story in other game rooms too.

As for you Martin maybe because your not offended by such behaviour suggests to me that maybe your treated badly by others on a regular basis and take it as normal everyday stuff that your used to.

lol treated badly by others are u serious???? i am a father also of 3.  thing is if a person is dull enough to let theyre kids play on such a site where abuse is thrown about then they should expect all they get.  i dont use many sites on the net but i am sure that not many are policed they way this site is. fly or die are doing a great job at what they do.  but as always its not enough people want more and more outa them.  if every person who played fly or die made a suggestion to improve fly or die u think they be able to do em all ???  point is simple fly or die is what it is accept it.

what you need to remember is that games are played by children. FOD is accessed via many different affiliate game sites such as free arcade where their games are alongside some very childish games. If children cant play on here it will be a very sad day. And the site would probably close down. What parent can honestly guard against which site a child uses. No filter would block a gaming site. And why should we block our children playing games, why do you put your hands up and let the rude people win so easily. stand up for what you believe dont give up. That is the kind of attitude that let Hitler rise to power. 

if you knew anything about children and parenting you would know that no parent has the time to supervise every second of play time and children are very able to find there way around a computer. Stop passing the buck. Add more offensive words to the prohibited list, make the mute button stay after you log off making a list of bad people (as in party poker), stop moderators congregating in one room, and how about banning the offenders hmmm that might work?????

Martin people are not dull because they are unaware of the contents of a particular website m8! The very fact that the flyordie homepage has games that would attract a younger audience suggests to me that the website is suppost to appeal to both the young and the old! An example of that would be boulderdash and chess! 

Therfore it would be considered responsibile to moderate the website to that affect! For example you wouldn't call an adult film by a childrens title like "charlie and the chocolate factory" and put scenes of heavy violence and foul swear words in it would you??? 

No that would be considered inappropriate to mislead the public in such a way! Thats why we have 12,15, and 18 certificates stamped on such things, so us dull people as you put it m8! get the picture. This layed back attitude you have regarding this post does annoy me and worry me!

If you were to verbally, write or send an e-mail with threatening words contained within to anyone! say a neighbour for example, the police would be on your door step sure enuff! leading to caution even a visit to the court Martin!

So i guess it should be taken a bit more seriously than you are suggesting m8!

i also can tell you hop that i have had to threaten legal action against another player because of using slander backing up someone elses campaign to just cause me grief all the time....thats when the screenshots are really useful....and i will use it if i have too

I don't believe that would go through a court, at least I don't think a judge would be willing to hear the case let alone a jury that wouldn't say "get over it".  Internet is on it's own jurisdiction of laws, though it is confined to agreements between nations it is a difficult thing to bring a case against because it is ever-changing thus evolving to a new level of criminal acts.  

blood they were'nt taunting me it was a direct threat to harm me and my family....taunting i can handle but i'm afraid this went to far....i spoke to fod about it and as far as i can see they have done something about it because i havent seen this player since....so for them to possibly ban him it must have been bad...i believe the moderation on here works to a degree but it is very hard to control all the abuse on here....hop has come up with a few good ideas and it would'nt be a bad idea if you were to help by suggesting a few yourself...and again hop was right "internet bullying" i know i've been on the end of it so get real man it does happen

fearlothin....."a new level of criminal acts" not really mate but what the internet has done is that its given a lot more scope to ppl to abuse others by sitting behind a screen and thinking they can get away with it...i'm right behind hop on this one IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED....and by the way a good example are peado's which is being addressed by the police already so why should'nt the authorities address threats as well , as hop said you would'nt say it in a letter to someone because you would be in a lot of trouble if you did but its the same here surely ?

Because quite frankly threats are air, there is no weapon present there is no crime to commit.  Peado's actions are in violation of quite a few acts put on the web to safely secure childeren to surf the web at their leisure, threats are just heresay and thus a hard thing to prove in the court of law.  Think about it: if everytime you got called a name in school you tried to take someone to court over it; what evidence would you have against the person?  A paper with a threat, and it would probably be looked at but more than likely wouldn't go past the pre-trial without being dropped by the judge.  I'm studying law, as easy as it is to threaten someone online it is not so easy to bring criminal charges against said person.

I think that criticisms, so long as they are put forward well, are a good thing and can only help flyordie. However, I think that far too many suggestions and criticisms are now being put in the "dear moderators" section, when they should be posted in the "requests/suggestions" forum.

Also, I think that moderators get it in the neck far too much. They MODERATE, not RUN the site. On the whole, moderation is good, naturally there are a few who probably don't do their job as well as they should, but that's to be expected. 

What I'm saying is, Martin's right as far as this site isn't/never will be perfect and that you should accept it for what it is (an online snooker site, something which I think people forget) but also, there wouldnt be a suggestions section if FOD didnt think it useful. 


Suggestion to flyordie: Use the tool you've created to better effect. (requests/suggestions) As I believe this is where the frustrations of many users (subscribers in particular) lie.

Martin it is just a game your right mate! so why all the threatening behavoir? As for growing up! i don't find this discussion immature, to say your fed up with this type of topic is fair enough, but i think this matter makes better use of the flyordie forum than the majority of posts i see now within this section. 

For example how many people are fed up reading posts regarding over inflated ego's e.g "the best of the best" and "the best of the best of the best" that seem to litter the forums now! Yawn, but it seems to generate a lot of interest with the type of players that do take winning a game seriously.

All im asking for is for flyordie to make there foul language filter fishing net a bit bigger, an maybe a fair play league for good sportsmanship to exsist. There are many rooms that do not get used, wasted server space that could be put to better use. I would also like to see sum kind of caution that the site does try to enforce propoer conduct within the games rooms! on their homepage.
