Point reset at Backgammon
Dear admins, dear moderators,

First of all, I would like to thank you for your good site.
The topic I want to talk about is about an incident (misunderstanding)
that happened in the backgammon game.
Of course, I know that no one is to blame, it just happened because of
not understanding each other properly.

Topic: Reducing the score of some of the best players in the backgammon
game.

First of all I have to say that I don't deny that some players may give
each other points because it has happened before. But now this thing
(reduction of points) has happened to those who we all know well and we
know that they play for real and there is a serious competition between
them.

The issue here is that there are fewer players with high scores (of
course this is a natural thing in all games) and they are forced to play
only with each other because they have less choice.

Now someone may say if they are good players why are they afraid to play
with other players? The answer is that this is a game based on luck and
strategy, and the luck factor is very important in it so that luck
prevails over strategy.

The next reason is that the risk of playing with players with a low
score is too high for them.
Because if a player with a high score loses, he will lose more points
and if he wins the game, he will gain less points. So, it seems logical
that the players choose those who have a smaller difference in points
for the game.

In the game of backgammon, this difference is usually acceptable up to
50 points.

Now someone may ask why some players with high score only play with 1 or
2 maximum 3 players and not the other players (even with players with
high score)? In my opinion, I know that other people also agree with me
for 2 reasons: 1. Because of the time difference.

Players may not find each other due to coming at different times.

Some players come in the morning and some always come late at night. It
has happened to me a lot that I have not found any players to play with
and this is a fact.
2. The reason for my hesitation is because of the fierce competition
between some players.

I know some players and because of the intense competition between
them, they never play with each other because none of them wants to
directly cause their rival to rise.

As a result, they play with others, not with each other.

These players never play with each other even if they can't find another
player to play with, even if the system reduces their points.

Now, with these explanations, unfortunately, last night, some of our
good and old players with the highest points experienced the penalty of
points reduction.

And this may happen to the others as well.

In these explanations, I just want to make it clear that they have no
bad intentions and always play for real.

In my opinion, this unfortunate incident happened due to a lack of
proper understanding of the issue, resulting in a drastic action.

I hope the admins/moderators will look at this issue with a more open
and clear vision.

Because if this practice continues, we will witness the loss of
competition and excitement in the game, and as a result, we will witness
the departure of the best players, and this is a disappointing and sad
issue.

Best regards,

áhmad

Thank you for taking the time to articulate your thoughts and concerns regarding the recent situation in the backgammon game.
Your explanation sheds light on an important aspect of the community dynamics and scoring system, and I appreciate your constructive tone in raising this issue.

You’ve highlighted some valid points about the challenges that high-ranked players face in maintaining their scores, especially given the luck factor inherent in backgammon. It’s understandable that they would prefer to play with opponents of similar rank to minimize the risk of losing substantial points.

Your suggestion to view this incident as a misunderstanding is reasonable. It’s clear from your explanation that the players in question value fair competition and are not engaging in any intentional rule-breaking or collusion. Penalizing long-standing and respected members of the community without fully understanding the context could indeed harm the game’s competitive spirit and drive away some of its most skilled players.

Perhaps this situation can serve as an opportunity to revisit how scoring adjustments or penalties are implemented. For instance, the system might take into account patterns of legitimate play between frequent opponents or offer more nuanced criteria before applying penalties. Open dialogue between moderators, admins, and the community could help build trust and ensure fairness.

Thank you again for addressing this matter so thoughtfully. I hope your concerns are considered, and that any necessary adjustments can be made to preserve the vibrant and competitive atmosphere of the game we all enjoy.

It’s just sad these days. People who are like 700+ lose more points than lower players if we don’t play a match within a week. >100 lose like 2 points in a month whereas <700 lose 20 or so points in a month if they don’t play
The content is completely correct and excellently expressed👌
Actually, it's not. A number of users involved here were banned and/or have had there points adjusted for breaking the rules.

That is the end of the matter.
❤️
